Obituary for Rozella Lane
Mr.s Rozella Lockhart Lane was born on October 9, 1920 in Jefferson, South Carolina to the late Richard Lockhart and Ollie Miller Lockhart. She entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 7, 2014.
She joined Hopewell United Methodist Church in Jefferson, SC at an early age and served faithfully. Rozella attended the public school of Chesterfield County, SC.
Rozella migrated to Washington, DC and then to Harlem in New York, NY in the 1940’s. In 1959, she joined the Monarch Temple #815, Daughters of the Improve, Benevolent, and Protective Order Elks of the World. She was a faithful member until the last day of her life. She served with dignity all stations of the temple, promoted and created many fundraisers; she was most noted for her annual bus rides to Atlantic City. Rozella Lane assisted her Temple Daughter, Marion Campbell in organizing the most popular, Pageant & Tam Department of the Grand Temple Daughters of Elks, one that continues to flourish today.
Rozella moved to South Ozone Park, Queens in the 1960’s. There she joined the Morris Brown African Methodist Episcopal Church. She was a faithful member, helped with many of the church’s organizations and charities such as food drives, soup kitchens and etc.
Rozella lived life to the fullest. She was feisty, independent, spiritual individual who loved to travel and she was a great cook. Her specialty was turkey wings and gravy. Rozella was always willing to help anyone in need.
She leaves to cherish fond memories; her brother, Johnnie Lockhart, Jefferson, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and beloved family members and friends.
Rozella was preceded in death by three sister; Novella Love, Ileader Duren; Roberta McMillan and one brother, Emsley Lockhart Sr.
