Obituary for Nancy J. Madison

Nancy J.  Madison
Shortly before dawn on September 24, 2014, Nancy J. Madison peacefully journeyed to her heavenly home. She was born on May 4, 1934 in Bristol, Virginia to the late Roy Lee and Maggie Dell Tabor. She was the second of seven siblings in which John Ed, Douglas Lewis, Robert Lee and Shirley Mae preceded her in death. Nancy was the mother of 3 children, Landra A. Ross, Morgan Kenneth Tabor, and the late Maggie Henrietta Brown.

Nancy found the Lord at a young age. She was baptized at Lee Street Baptist Church in Bristol, Virginia. Upon locating to New York she united herself with the Tiberian Baptist Church of St. Albans, Queens. Where she served in various ministries throughout the years and later became the President of the Usher Board.

Nancy was educated at Slater High school in Bristol, Tennessee. Upon graduation she worked at King College for many years. Nancy later relocated to Queens, New York, where she met and married her late husband James Madison. She worked in the banking industry until she went on to explore her interest in beauty and cosmetology. Nancy attended the Wilfred Academy of Hair and Beauty Culture in 1985 and Dudley’s Cosmetology University where she received her degrees in Beauty and Cosmetology. Upon completion Nancy opened Nan’s Beauty Salon in St. Albans, New York. Nancy also worked part time in Variety Drug Store located in Rochdale Village in Jamaica, Queens. She also volunteer as a Senior Companion for the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disability Organization. Nancy worked tirelessly until her illness prevented her from working any longer.

Nancy had a love for life. Her many activities included bowling, taking cruises, reading and socializing. She dedicated her time and energies to caring for her many grands and great grands. She had a love for family and never missed a family reunion.

Nancy leaves to celebrate her life sister, Deacon Mattie Louise Tabor, brother, Rev. Joseph Alexander Tabor, daughter, Landra A. Ross, son, Morgan Kenneth Tabor, sister-in-law, Frances Bell, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 8 great, great grandchildren; a host of loving cousins and friends.
