Ralph Taylor, age 85, beloved father and grandfather was born on November 14th, 1934 to Louisa Braveboy and George Taylor. He transitioned to be with his savior on March 24th, 2020. He was the fourth of thirteen children. Ralph worked as a civil servant for the government of Trinidad and Tobago for over thirty-five years.

Ralph was a devoted father, after his separation and divorce he worked diligently to support and care for his children, until they migrated to the United States. He wanted his children to have a better life and understood the importance of education. To that end he would routinely line the kids up for vocabulary heads and tails or name a country’s capital. He was an avid reader, loved reciting poetry and enjoyed playing draughts with his buddies on the weekends. Every Sunday morning was met with music from Kenny Rogers, Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole on his record player, much to the chagrin of his children. To this day they can sing most songs from any of these artist. He also passed on his love of Westerns, Karate and Kung Fu movies, which they would all watch together on Sunday afternoons.

He had a saying for every situation or circumstances, like “ Stop coming and come now” or ‘You trying to give me a six for a nine” and when he was exasperated “High Ya Yigh”. He loved giving people nicknames, for his children; Natalie and Nigel were “sister Mary and brother Joseph”, Garth was “Big Ben”, his grandson Jacore was “Tiny Tim”

In his retired years he would split his time between Trinidad and the U.S., visiting with his children and grandchildren and friends and other family.

Ralph was a fighter, and believed in the value of hard work. This was best exemplified after he suffered a traumatic brain injury two months before his 80th birthday, he had to learn for the second time in his life to walk, talk, and feed himself. Despite being somewhat limited by the extent of his injuries, he stilled enjoyed playing dominos and 21 with his family during their visits.

To the joy of his family, Ralph finally gave his life to the Jesus Christ in November 2019.

Ralph leaves behind his five children as a testament to his legacy, Elizabeth Taylor, Allison Taylor, and her husband Faiz, Nigel Taylor and his wife Koshua, Natalie Mitchell and her husband Colwyn, Garth Taylor and his wife Vonette. He also leaves to mourn his loss seven grandchildren; Ayanna Ellis, Jacore Blue, Daniel Ellis, Nigel Allan Taylor II, Stratton Taylor, Maximus Taylor and Londyn Taylor. He is also survived by his ex-wife Janet Daniel the mother of his five children, and three siblings; Joyce Taylor, O’Neill Taylor and Brenda Nathaniel.

Ralph will be missed.

The family also gives a special note of thanks to the following family members for their support and friendship these past years; his nieces Michelle Taylor, Debbie Taylor and Gail Ann Taylor, and family friends Catherine Bascombe and Phyllis Nesbitt.
