Today we send greetings to all, in the Holy Name of Jesus Christ Our Savior, from the cousins and families of Maryann here in Baltimore, MD. We all were born and raised in Littleton, NC along with Maryann (known best to us as beloved 'Ann' at that time along with her brother, Ben, their mother, Marie and her siblings and their Mom and Pop, Aunt Pearl and Uncle B.J. Aunt Pearl was sister to Elizabeth (mom to Yvonne and Mary (Tuni, me) and caregiver/guardian to Bernice and Lillian (Sis) (deceased). But, anyway, there were a lot of us kids and oh, how we did love each other...and loved to see one another to laugh and play. Certainly, we were poor...challenged, always low on funds and much of the finer things in life during that period (the 1950's). But be very sure, we were never short on love and happiness because we had each other...helped each other and relied upon each other. When I say our families were close (despite the long red dirt road distances between our homes), we really were close and would walk miles to get together! Ann grew up in this kind of mutual love and I will always remember her quiet personality and her sweet, sweet spirit. So please know dear family, our hearts meld and grieve with yours right now, that is the hearts of cousins: Yvonne, Bernice and Mary (and each of our family members, too) and we join in thanking God for allowing us to grow up with, and share our upbringings with Maryann (and with each of the Carters, Snows, Lees and Hawkins families which were all fueled by the Alston clan of NC). May God continue to bless and keep us all, and soothe the hearts and souls of the loved ones of Maryann Alston in this, her homegoing and our hour of loss and bereavement. We thank you Heavenly Father. Amen.

What a beautiful service! Thank God for technology. The family here in NC is with you, Aunt Pearl’s family—we grieve with you. Let’s look to Jesus! Tuni, what a very rich and inclusive statement to the family. You are so complete and expressive! Thank you for your words to the Maryann family and to all of us. I wish I had said all that (smile). We love all branches of our family; I am so glad to be a part of it. Love, Cynthia Hawkins Woods (Bertha Lee’s oldest)

To God be the glory. Ann’s Homegoing service today was a blessing to my heart. and Cynthia expressed my sentiments very well. I am Cynthia’s Sister and Tuni’s second cousin. I grew up in Littleton too and remember Ben, Ann and Renee when all of us were ‘much’ younger. I regret losing the strong ties that our families once held as dear. Just know that we love you all and trust that Ann is where we all will be one day. I can imagine her, now, rejoicing with all the family who welcomed her into God’s beautiful place where COVID and all other concerns on Earth will no longer exist. Jeanette Hawkins Somerville

Fond memories cuz... I didn’t Friend you on FB because I didn’t know who you were. You was like, “Cookie, this is Ann, Renee, Cissy and Tootsie sister.” Lol.
This was about 3 or 4 months ago and we talked regularly on FB catching up and just general conversations. I’m so happy I got the chance to get to know Ann and chit chat with her. At some point I realized I hadn’t seen Ann on FB for awhile and made a note to message her.
I’ll miss you Ann. Rest in Heaven. You’re in Gods loving arms. I love you and I will miss you!
