Obituary for Joyce Dailey

Shirley Joyce Dailey was born February 17, 1943 in Aiken, South Carolina to the late Evangeline Dailey. She was the second eldest of 5 children, James, Jeanette, Elaine and Mary. Joyce was educated in the Aiken County Public Schools and was a graduate of Ridge Hills High School. After graduating she moved to Columbia, South Carolina for a short time. In 1962, Joyce moved to New York where she resided in Jamaica Queens. She was a seamstress and worked for many years in a knitting factory.

In 1970 she welcomed her first son Marvin Dailey followed by her second son Richard Dailey in 1977. Joyce was an active member of Sweet Rest Baptist church in Jamaica, New York where she served for many years on the church usher board.

Joyce was a private person, but she bore a quiet yet mighty and persevering spirit. She will be remembered for being patient, and kind. She was a grateful person and lived simply and humbly. Joyce was a cancer survivor and lived with a tremendous faith. She was a great listener and her friends often turned to her to lend an ear. Joyce’s grandchildren will remember her for her love and her delicious macaroni and cheese. She had a unending love for her two sons, her three grandchildren and her friends.

Joyce leaves behind her treasured memory in the hearts of her family. She is survived by her eldest son and family, Marvin and Heather Dailey and her grandson Jordan Dailey, of New York and her youngest son and family, Richard and Noriko Dailey and her two granddaughters Kinu and Tenshi Dailey of Greensboro, North Carolina. Joyce is also survived by her sister Mary Addy and brother-in-law Reverend Videl Addy of Lexington, South Carolina. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews that will cherish her memory.

Her family will miss her, they love her and pray for her eternal peace as God has called her home to his kingdom in heaven.
