Geraldine Batiste Washington, affectionately called “Geri,” was born July 3, 1941, in Eunice, LA, to Doris (m. Robinson) and Arthur Batiste. Educated by the St. Landry Parish Public School system, Geri graduated from Charles Drew High School. She attended Louisiana State University Health in New Orleans prior to moving to New York to begin her career in the financial services industry. She excelled in her field while completing several finance, banking, and management certifications, enabling her to retire from Citibank. Geri was keen on relationships, with a passion for her family, God and her church, as well as politics.
Geri married Gary Washington in 1969, with whom she shared her love for travel and fashion. She was a committed and dedicated Mother to Natasha Washington (Kurt Richards) – Kaila and Marquise (deceased), and Alicia Washington-Bellamy (Lloyd) – Tatiyana, Tyler, Teron, and Tiffany (deceased); Nurturing Sister to Herman Batiste (deceased) (Marie-deceased) – Darrell, Carl, Carla (deceased), and Shawn; Marval (John-deceased) Hughes – John and Robert; Donna Batiste (deceased) – Connie Yeldell, Tray Allison, Ronald Allison, and Yolanda Allison-Sutton; Jean Batiste-Murray (deceased) (Victor); Audrey Batiste – Dawn; Olivia “Leeba” Moore (deceased) – Damien Batiste (Alesha), Jazimine Jones (Derrick), and Jade; and Deloris Batiste; Godmother to Stacey Batiste and Master James Coleman. She leaves behind a wealth of family and friends who loved and cared for her dearly.
On Monday, January 18, 2021, at 12:01pm – which also was the day reserved to celebrate one of her heroes – Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., Geri transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home. She’ll be greeted by all of her loved ones. Eddie Lee Guyton Sr. will be there with a limo and a jet to take her to her final resting place. She’ll be greeted by her parents, sisters, brother, mother and father in law and brother in law. She’ll say Hi to Mr. Charles “Pop” Floyd, Tobias Washington Jr. and even Bella & Princess our family dogs.
She will be forever missed and never forgotten.
