Evangelist Evelyn Hadley was born on November 20, 1931 in Cape Charles, Virginia to the late Deacon James E. Davis and Mother Lillie Mae Davis. She entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 22, 2020. Her life was a testimony of service to God and her family. In the early 1950s, she moved to New York City and joined Victory Temple Church of God in Christ. While there, she sang in the choir and served as a pianist. In 1954, she married a U.S. Army Soldier, Elder Joseph L. Hadley, Sr., and from that union they were blessed with four children, Jacqueline Renee Hadley Echols, Joseph Lee Hadley, Jr, Jean Denice Hadley, and Barry Von Hadley.

During her life, Evelyn ministered in several churches to include Holy Trinity Church of God Christ, The Friendly Church of the Apostolic Faith, and True Zion Gospel Temple, where her husband became the Assistant Pastor. In the 1980s, she joined with her husband in birthing St. Paul Church of God in Christ. She fulfilled multiple roles to include church secretary, missionary, teacher, and of course, organist. A few years after God called her husband into eternity, she joined the Educational Church of God in Christ, supporting Elder Ruben Frye and Evangelist Lucile Frye, and faithfully served there as an organist, bible class teacher, and district missionary. Her final church home was Faith Outreach Revival Center, pastored by her daughter, Jacqueline. Here she served as a minister, teacher, mother, organist, and unofficial advisor to the pastor. No task was too great nor small, and Evelyn could always be counted on for selfless sacrifice to minister unto God’s people.

The legacy of Evelyn’s life is profound and worthy of honor. A virtuous woman, she faithfully supported her husband in various ministries and modeled Christian virtue and loving family relationships. She raised four children, who all declared Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and all served in various ministry capacities. She encouraged people, showed hospitality to others, helped the afflicted, attended college in her 40s, and devoted herself to doing good in every way. Although she had no formal music training, she blessed numerous ministries and thousands of saints with hymns and other songs that warmed the heart and soul. Her life was a melody, and we enjoyed the song.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Pastor Jaqueline (Bishop Edward Echols Sr), Apostle Joseph (Lady Jacqueline N. Hadley), and Elder Elect Barry (Sister Alfreda Hadley); her brothers, William Davis (Margaret) and James E Davis Jr (Patricia); Sister In Law, Pearl Davis, and a host of grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, friends, and many others among the body of Christ.
