Obituary for Carol Metivier

Carol Sutton-Metivier, age 65, beloved mother and grandmother was born on November 29th, 1954 to Gladys and Joseph Sutton. She departed this earthly life on March 31st, 2020. She was the first of five children. Carol’s early education in the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago included; Egypt Village Government School, Point Fortin College, & Trinzuela College. She went on to further her education when she migrated to New York by attaining both her both bachelor’s and Master’s Degree. At an early age, she was baptized at the Point Fortin SDA church.

Carol loved to laugh and enjoyed being with family and friends. Especially time with her grandchildren, they became her greatest joy. In her retired years she would split her time between Trinidad and New York, visiting with her daughter, grandchildren, her surviving siblings and other family and friends.

Having grown up in the SDA church, in her latter days she started attending regular church services. She was an avid music lover and every Sunday was met with music from Lord Nelson, Baron, Eddie Lovette, Greggory Isaacs and Percy Sledge.

Growing up in a Trini household you learnt to finesse the art of speaking in, and deciphering what the older generation would call “parables”. As such she always had a saying for every situation or circumstance, like “Blood thicker than water” “Cattle horn never too heavy for him to carry” or her all-time favorite “Monkey know what tree to climb”.

Carol leaves to mourn her loss; mother Gladys Sutton, siblings Ava and Glenn Sutton, daughter Hazel-Ann Cupid, granddaughters Akilah & Anaya Bailey, nephews Darieal and Duane Ravello, Akil and Kyle Glaslow, and Glenn Sutton, Jr., nieces Asha & Aneca Glasglow and Adanna Bartholomew, aunt Julia Tesedale and uncle Jeffrey Buckmire, stepdaughters Janet Cummings & Joy DilJohn, stepsons Trevor, Michael, & Garvin Metivier; along with many other close friends of the family. Carol is preceded in death by her husband Frank Metivier, father Joseph Sutton, brothers, Gilbert and Michael Sutton, and grandmother Veronica Fuentes.

God has called his daughter home, we love you and miss you more than words can say.
Sleep in peace….

With love your family
