Obituary for Alonzo Whitaker

Alonzo “Al” William Whitaker was the first child of Lillie and Milton Whitaker Sr.; born December 10, 1943. He was born in Scotland Neck, NC. After the next two children were born, the family moved to New York.
Al was educated in NYC Public Schools; ending with Woodrow Wilson High School. After high school, he joined the US Army. He served two terms in the Army before returning to New York to stay.

Al enjoyed listening to classic jazz, eating Sushi at his favorite restaurant, jogging in the park, weight lifting and watching various sporting events with his brother. Al and Milton would enjoy each other’s company by going down to the park to shoot the breeze on the weekend.

Al also enjoyed a good conversation, strongly expressing his views. He was always a great conversationalist who loved to impart pearls of wisdom to his nieces and nephews.
Al retired from the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation in 2014. He has enjoyed living his life on his terms since that time.

Al was predeceased by both of his parents and his closest sister Mildred Whitaker Cuff; also nephews Milton Whitaker III, Michael Whitaker and Darryn Cuff. He leaves to cherish his memory: his brother and closest friend Milton L. Whitaker, Jr. (Cecelia Burchett), two sisters Ophelia Whitaker Coleman and Kathy Whitaker Knight (Carleton Knight); his nieces and nephews Michele Bowie (Walter Bowie), Elliott Cuff, Jr. (Denise Bailey), Jerel Cuff, Marissa Coleman, Daniele Payne (Jerry Payne), Kenya Pridgen (Joseph Pridgen),William Harris. His great-nephews and nieces: Lamarr Whitaker, Mikyle Bowie, Elijah Bowie (Brynn Bowie) Jhomari Cuff, Kelaiah Conway (Aidan Conway),Nehemiah Bowie, Micah Bowie, Chance Laughton, Isaiah Bowie, Zechariah Bowie, Ezekiel Bowie, Malachi Bowie, Joshua Payne, Jasmine Payne, Christopher Pridgen
Great-great nephews and nieces Mikyle Bowie Jr., Jacob Bowie, Rylan Conway, Aniyah Conway, Mikaiah Bowie, Aidan Conway Jr. and Machai Bowie.
