Obituary for Louida Goodwin-Watson

Louida Watson was born November 2, 1947 in Minter, Dallas County, Alabama to the late Nathaniel and Lydia Dennis Goodwin. Louida departed this life on September 19, 2014. Louida came to New York City at an early age. She attended elementary school in Harlem, NY, Sherman junior high school in Queens, NY and Jamaica Vocational high school. As a teenager Louida was baptized at Mother Gallaway’s church were she sang on the Church Choir in Queens, NY. Louida went on to graduate from Central School for Practical Nursing with a License to practice in North Carolina, South Carolina and New York. Louida worked in the Queens, NY hospital system where her last job was at Hollis Park Nursing home in Queens, NY.

On April 29, 1974 Louida married George Watson. From this union they were blessed with a beautiful son, George Watson, Jr. She was a loving person, always helping her nephews and other relatives, but her heart was her son.

Louida was an old soul in a young body. She loved sewing, crafts, fixing things around the house, reading, and writing. She received payment for some of the short stories she had written.

Louida leaves to mourn cherished memories her beloved son George Watson, Jr.; a step-son Tyrone Watson; her sister, Marietta Godineaux of Lumber Bridge, NC; brothers, Nathaniel Goodwin of NY and Ralph Goodwin of NC; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Goodwin of NJ; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, a special and kind friend Dalton who called her the “Lady in Black”; other relatives and treasured friends.
