Reflections Of Life

Vonita Vaughn born August 16, 1928 in Baltimore, Maryland. and was the daughter of Joseph and Martha Martin. She was the oldest of seven girls.

Vonita was educated in the Baltimore city public school system. She was a graduate of Cortez Peters Business Schools in Baltimore, Maryland. Vonita attended the New York Wilfred Academy in 1978 where she studied hair and beauty techniques.

Vonita found her passion in the Fashion Industry, and worked many years on Broadway in the fashion industry. After working in the fashion industry Vonita worked for the New York Board of Education for eighteen years.

Vonita married Leonard Vaughn after dating him for one month. She was married to “Lenny”, as he was known, for 55 years.

Vonita was a member of Union United Methodist Church in Jamaica, New York for 40 years where she served as a lay speaker, and a member of the choir.

Vonita was a devoted wife, mother and sister. She dearly loved her sisters, and they remained close throughout her entire life. Vonita was a loving and outgoing person. She had many good friends, and provided comfort and support to friends and family.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Eric Vaughn; five sisters: Constance Moore, Martha Margin, Elvira McLaughlin, Yvonne Martin, Joann Johnson; one granddaughter: Nicole Vaughn; two great grandchildren: Tsion Vaughn, Ronyae Vaughn; and a host of friends and relatives.
