Obituary for Ruth Brown

Ruth Brown, was born to the late Archie Brown and the late Bertha Hair on October 7, 1936.
She was born, raised and educated in Calhoun Country, South Carolina. She was the youngest girl of twelve children.

In all ways great and small Ruth lived up to the meaning of her name. She was a friend to all those who knew her. She was always there willing to lend a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on or even just to offer a listening and understanding ear.

Like many of her generation Ruth migrated from the South in the early 1950’s to New York City. It was here she gave birth to and raised her five children. She was a loving and adoring mother who devoted herself, through hard work and leading by example, to ensure that her children had a better life than she did.

After having a stroke in early 1986, which left her disabled and unable to work, Ruth’s faith in God only continued to grow. Through the years as her health declined her love of God increased as her fear of death decreased.

On January 15, 2015 Ruth fell asleep in death.

Ruth is survived by one sister Bertha Coley, five children, Harold, Amos, David, Lisa, and Shontell; three daughters-in-law, Sandra, Melesha and Patricia, a son-in-law, Alvin; four grandchildren, KaTina, NaKiasha, Monique, and Tyler; four great-grandchildren, Shannon, Mark, Syeda, and Gabriele; two great-great- grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
