Robina M. Peoples Shaw was born on August 18, 1922 in Limestone, Alabama to the late Maggie and Thornton Peoples. She had two brothers Leslie Matthews and Jesse Peoples that preceded her in death.

After the death of her mother, Beannie, as she is affectionately called, lived with her parental grandparents, Edward and Elizabeth Jones in Limestone County, Alabama. Richard and Mattie Jones Freeman, her uncle and aunt, also assisted in her care. She attended Little Elk Training School, Limestone County. At an early age she attended Little Elk Missionary Baptist Church and was converted and baptized.

In 1941, Robina moved to New York with her oldest brother Leslie and his wife, Lucinda. She worked during the day and attended night school to complete a Tailoring Trade. Beannie became an accomplished dressmaker.

Romantic love began to blossom in 1947 when she met Harold Shaw. They were married in 1950 and to this union, their beloved son, Reynold was born. She loved and enjoyed entertaining her family and friends by inviting them to elaborate dinner parties in her home. She served delicious entrees and assorted desserts. Robin’s heart was broken and sadden following the deaths of Harold 1987 and Reynold 1990.

1955, Mrs. Shaw joined The Abyssinian Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Dr. Adam Clayton Powell Jr. She served faithfully on the Progressive Ladies Usher Board until her health failed. She was employed by the Board and Education of the City of New York as a dietitian, until her retirement in 1988.

As you know Robina loved Las Vegas and Atlantic City. She loved to travel and did the bucket-list.

Robina departed this life on Thursday, November 6, 2009. She leaves to cherish loving and fond memories her devoted foster brother, Esau Freeman (Ronnice), Jacksonville, FL, a devoted godson, Rashad Williams, Jamaica, NY, niece, Angela Peoples, Cincinnati, OH, two loving and devoted caregivers, Skye Williams and LaTonya Vereen, Jamaica, NY; and a host of relatives and many friends. And a special thanks especially to the Mann family for the years of your devoted friendship and kindness to her.
