Obituary for Marion Shedrick

Marion Curtis Shedrick entered his eternal rest on Monday, August 5, 2013 after a short stay at Flushing Hospital, Jamaica, NY at the age of 96 years old. He was born on October 22, 1916, in Greenwood, South Carolina, the eldest child born to John and Hattie Dean Shedrick. He received his formal education in South Carolina and afterwards joined the United States Army where he served in World War II and was honorably discharged on October 20, 1945.

While in military service, Marion married Nettie Bell and they made their home in New York City. He was employed as a mechanic for Consolidated Edison of New York, Inc., hired December 10, 1945, retiring in 1989 with 39 years of service. After his retirement, he spent much of his time cooking, watching sporting events and the soap operas. He was always a sports enthusiast who could recite statistics on most Major League baseball and football teams and players. One of his greatest passions was football; he was a New York Giant season ticket holder until his health prohibited his attending the games.

He loved his family and was a financial blessing to all at one time or another. Marion was kind and generous; never giving in to anger nor criticism of others.

He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, William T. Dean, Joseph Dean and George Shedrick, and two sisters, Christine Stanford and Melissa Robinson.

Marion is survived by one sister, Gladys Shedrick, Mt. Vernon, NY; three nephews, Charles Dean, George Shedrick and Ronald Shedrick; two nieces, Marcella Shelton and Kathy Joyner; five great-nephews, three great-nieces and many cousins and friends.
